We warmly invite you to Chateau Canet, a working wine and olive oil domaine in the South of France. Stay in one of our charming cottages, taste our award winning wines and let yourself be seduced by the tranquil pace of life and the enchanting beauty of the Languedoc Roussillon.
A traditional 19th century wine estate, Chateau Canet is today recognised as one of the leading domaines of the Minervois region in the heart of the Languedoc Roussillon. The 45 hectares of vineyards are complimented with 3 hectares of olive groves and over 65 hectares of farmland and pine forests. The setting is truly enchanting with all the buildings nestled in the heart of the estate. There are uninterrupted views over the vineyards and olive groves to the distant Alaric Mountains. It is a perfect place to unwind and soak in the beauty of the South of France.
Today, all the original buildings are still in use although they have been significantly modernized. The old winery is fitted with state of the art wine making equipment, allowing us to blend traditional ‘savoir-faire’ with modern day techniques. The stables are now used as our “aging cellar” where the wines quietly mature until ready to be bottled and enjoyed. The manor house is still a family home and the original “vignerons” lodgings have been converted in charming guest cottages.
You are welcome to come and taste our wines and wander into the cellars to discover the pace of life on a working wine estate. Or you may choose to stay for longer and enjoy a wonderful holiday in one of our charming guest cottages. And while on holiday, you can explore our vineyards, hike through miles of private countryside following herb scented trails or use one of our bikes and venture further a-field, along the peaceful country roads surrounding the estate. Younger guests enjoy their own play area.
In the middle of the ‘Pays Cathare’, with its rich medieval history, the location of Château Canet is hard to beat.Just 2 kilometers from the small and charming village of Rustiques only 15 minutes from the UNESCO world heritage sites, the Cite de Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi.
When we started looking for a wine estate in the South of France, we had a dream, we were looking for more than just a place that we could call home… we were looking for a home that we could share with our family, friends and guests. And so “Chez Canet” came to be! A cluster of independent cottages located on the site of our picturesque wine and olive oil estate Chateau Canet; the perfect setting for your holiday and for experiencing the many pleasures of French country life. The nine cottages at Chateau Canet form part of the original buildings and are nestled in the heart of the Estate, surrounded by the vineyards and olive groves. Each cottage is named after one of our grape or olive varietals and overlook the gardens, pool or tennis court; all of which are available for your exclusive enjoyment during your stay.
Château Canet is a perfect venue for a special event; a birthday celebration, an anniversary party or even a wedding.L’Orangerie, our reception hall, can accommodate up to 80 people for a sit down dinner and still leave enough room for dancing. The large glass planned doors open up onto an inner courtyard with olive trees.Other picturesque venues on the estate provide a perfect backdrop for truly memorable events: pool side aperitifs, a picnic in the olive grove or a vineyard wedding, a disco party in the wine cellar. For these special events, the entire estate is reserved for your exclusive use, including our 9 guest cottage that can accommodate up to 48 people. We have experience in planning special events: we can call in a circus parade and fill the dance floor with balloons, cater an all champagne dinner or set up a country style pig roast lunch… No event is ever the same and we look forward to helping you make your dreams come true.
The 3 hectares of olive groves are made up of a number of different olives, including the very local varietals of Lucques; a bright green moon-shaped olive unique to the Lanquedoc Roussillon and Picholine; a smaller almond shaped olive that is used for both olive oil as well as table olives.
Our Caveau and Tasting Room is nestled in the heart of the domaine next to the 19th century cellar. You are welcome to drop by for a wine tasting and afterwards, time permitting, soak up the beauty of the surroundings with a walk through our vineyards. If you are a small group and would like to organize a private tasting, a cellar visit or participate in our wine tasting courses see wine tastings & cellar visits.
